๐Ÿ“Œ How HRA Exemption Works
  • HRA exemption = Least of the following three:
    • A. Actual HRA received from employer
    • B. Rent paid – 10% of salary (Basic + DA)
    • C. 50% of salary (for Metro cities) or 40% of salary (for Non-Metro)
  • Salary for HRA purpose = Basic Salary + Dearness Allowance (if part of retirement benefits).
  • If you live in a rented house and receive HRA, this exemption reduces your taxable income.
  • Rent paid must be more than 10% of salary to claim any exemption.
